Sweet Child of Mine--Sweet Love of Mine

Today at 4:28 pm my baby will turn 19.  Even as I type this post I can hardly beieve it is true.  I truly don't know where the time has gone.  I can remember  so clearly the day that he was born and how much joy he brought to our family.
We could not have been prouder of him as he grew into a joyous, thoughtful, sensitive, fun loving, energetic teenager.
We watched again with all the pride in the world as he developed into a strong, dedicated athlete.
And in a few weeks we will watch as he completes his high school career and graduates on to college.
Sweet Child of Mine--Sweet Love of Mine---I wish you the happiest of Birthdays.  I have been truly blessed having you as my son.

It's Rednesday!!!!

Is it just me or has anyone else ever found themself saying yes to so many requests, special orders and making promises that all need to be kept that it simply overwhelms you?  These past couple of weeks have been just like that for me.  I always think that I have way more time then I actually do.  As a result I was unable to participate in the last two Rednesdays hosted by Sue at "It's a  Very Cherry World" .  With my deadlines all met, I thought I would once again join in the fun and share something red today.  My first red item is my new blog header.  I tried my hand at creating my own .  I have always loved the reproduction fabric from the 1930's and thought it would make a fun background to showcase pictures of my family.  I am not a digital scrapbooker but this banner was fun to make---hmmm I just might have to give this digital scrapbooking a try.  The second red item that I would like to share with you is this little tusie musie that I created.  I participated in A Swap for all Season's tusie musie swap and this is the gift I made for my sweet partner Sarah.  Her favorite color is---you guessed it---RED

If you would like to see pictures of the other tusies musies that were created, just click on this link.  There really are some beauties!!!   I know these next items are not red but I also wanted to share the other goodies that I sent Sarah along with her tusie musie.  First this little bluebird of happiness bookmark and a scrabble tile necklace for her daughter Grace.
And this little birdy banner for her other daughter, Jilian.
I really enjoyed making this banner.  The bird image is actually cut from a wonderful piece of fabric that I recently purchased from an amazing fabric shop that I just discovered. I love the look of mixing scrapbook paper and fabric in my projects.  I had some extra fabric so I decided to make a similar banner for my etsy shop.
Thanks for stopping by to visit today.  I hope you all have a HAPPY Rednesday.

Vintage Handkerchief Charms

One of my very favorite vintage treasures are the dainty handkerchiefs from days gone by.  I adore everything about these little beauties.  Their soft delicate colors, the darling trim that adorns the edges, the charming embroidery--some with initials others with sweet flowers. Even though these little treasures aren't used often in todays world, I still find them to be enchanting.  I have purchased many from estate sales and flea markets and my collection still grows.  It seemed a shame to keep them hidden from view in their storage boxes.  So I came up with the idea to fashion tiny pieces of some of my favorites into soldered charms.  I wanted to share a few with you tonight that I just completed for my etsy shop.  Each featuring a vintage handkerchief on one side and a sweet sentiment on the other.  A nice keepsake from the past.....

So Very "Tweet"

On a recent visit to one of my most favorite shops, Roxanne's Dried Flowers, I discovered this most delightful little planter.  I knew in an instant that I just had to have it.  After all who doesn't need a tiny cement ice-cream cone planter.  No calories here.
At first I was not sure what I was going to do with this little cutie but after walking around the shop I found these  two tiny little birds nests.
The idea came to me---create a double scoop using those little nests.  First I shredded some vintage sheet music in my handy dandy miniature paper shredder and filled the inside of the cone.
Next using a wooden skewer I fashioned the little nests into a topiary.

Added some tiny eggs in the bottom nest...
Some more shredded sheet music to the top nest and for the "cherry", a sweet little bird.
And there you have it...A "tweet" little ice-cream cone.
Staying with the theme of tonight's post, I wanted to share with you several new charms that will soon be flying into my etsy shop.  These little Bluebird of Happiness charms were created using images from some of my favorite vintage greeting cards.
The back of the charms are completed with a piece of vintage sheet music and a happy sentiment.
I guess one can't help being inspired by the return of the Spring and all of the songbirds outside of my window.
